USDA Forest Service Northern Research Station

USDA Forest Service Northern Research Station

The USDA Forest Service Northern Research Station (NRS) was a founding member of the NIACS partnership in 2003. NRS is one of five Forest Service Research Stations and covers 20 states across the Midwest and Northeast US. NRS manages a diverse science portfolio, including more than 120 research scientists and 22 experimental forests. Climate change research within NRS helps describe climate impacts and offers new climate change mitigation and adaptation strategies to encourage resilient ecosystems, communities, and markets.

  • NIACS publishes major products as Forest Service General Technical Reports, through the NRS Communications and Science Delivery staff.
  • NRS and NIACS collaborate on communicating climate change information through a variety of avenues, such as the 2024 Rooted in Research series on Adapting to Extreme Weather Wild Cards and Changing Hydrology
